Announcements

 

Our Administrative Assistant will be out of the office from August 20th to 29th.  Other staff and volunteers will be answering phones, etc., but we may not have complete coverage during our usual office hours.  Please leave a message at the church, and we will make sure it gets passed on ASAP.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Congratulations!

 

We are pleased to announce the results of last week’s

Congregational Meeting.

 

Eric Beckman was elected unanimously as our new Associate Pastor!!  Eric and his family are planning to move this coming week, and he will begin in the office September 4th.

 

Thanks to our Associate Pastor Nominating Committee: Karen Blocker, Elise Cosby, Brett Hinkey, Christopher Keller, Carol Lawler, Scott McCain, Lynn Monroe, Erin Pullin.

NURSERY ATTENDANT OPENING

 

We are looking for someone to join us in the nursery as we provide care to children during worship services and other church-related events in a manner that ensures child safety, comfort and ease. Care is provided to infants, toddlers and preschoolers on Sunday mornings and at other times during the week, as needed. 

 

Bring your own children to work with you, and earn extra income while they play with their friends.

Gisele Becker is one of the Washington area’s leading choral conductors.  The Washington Post says Becker “has molded her group into a well-balanced and responsive ensemble…focused, intelligent music-making…”.  Ms. Becker has been the Music Director of the Cantate Chamber Singers since January 1994.  She is on the faculty of The Catholic University of America as a conducting professor.  She also serves as Director of Choral Activities at The George Washington University where she conducts the University Singers.  For 26 years Ms. Becker served as assistant conductor of The Washington Bach Consort and has also served as Chorus Master for the Cathedral Choral Society.

Opportunities for Study, Service and Fellowship

Family Movie Night — Join us for our 1st family movie night on the big screen!  Friday, August 24th.  Doors open at 6:30pm, and the movie begins at 6:45pm.  We’ll be watching the Chronicles of Narnia (rated pg).  Bring your blankets, pillows, and lawn chairs.  We’ll provide the popcorn and beverages.  Admission is free.

 

No Jr. Church Today— We have put together Wee Worship Kits for the kids to use.  These are located in the back of the sanctuary.  Please return these to the back of the sanctuary, so they’ll be there for the next service.  Wee Church for children ages 2-preK will continue year round.  Jr. Church will resume on September 9th!

 

In Concert — Angela Knight and Wayne Houk will be performing in concert at Greenwich on Saturday, September 1st, at 7:00pm.  Admission is free, but a free-will offering will be taken to benefit the Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department.

 

All Youth!!! — All Jr. and Sr. Highs are invited to join us for youth group TONIGHT at 6:00pm in Fellowship Hall.  Dinner is provided.  Please contact Chasity Spittle at youth@greenwichpres.org for more information.

Youth Change the Date— There will be no youth group on September 2nd.  During the month of September, the youth will meet on September 9th and September 16th.  No youth bible study on Thursday, August 30th.

 

Youth Group Kick Off Party!  - Join us on Sunday, September 9th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  All youth — grades 6 to 12.  Dinner will be provided.

 

Jr. and Sr. High Rafting Trip — All Jr. and Sr. High youth are invited to join us for our 2nd annual rafting trip — Sunday, August 26th.  We’ll leave the church at 8:00am and return at 9:00pm.  Cost is $56 per person.  Please RSVP to the Kinser’s by TODAY at 703.392.3989 if you would like to attend.  See insert for more information.

 

Congratulations! — Congratulations to Perry and Catherine Grubb on the birth of their son, Ryan Jacob, on Thursday, August 9th.  Ryan joins siblings Danny, Hallie and Jessica.

 

Preschool OpeningsGreenwich Preschool has openings in the morning and afternoon for 3-year-olds for the upcoming school year.  Children must by 3 years of age by September 30th and potty trained.  For more information, contact Marian Rood at preschool@greenwichpres.org or 703.754.7933.

 

Second Saturday — The Second Saturday group will meet on Saturday, September 8th, at 6:00pm, in Fellowship Hall. 

 

Special Music — This week we welcome Christina Beran on violin (accompanied by Mary Beran), and John Gilbert, our soloist.

 

Chancel Choir Retreat — All are invited to attend our Chancel Choir Retreat on Saturday, September 8th, from 9:00am to 2:00pm.  We’ll be “retreating” to Trinity Episcopal Church in Upperville.  Our guest clinician is Gisele Becker.  Childcare will be provided.  For more information, contact Lon Quinones at music@greenwichpres.org or 703.754.7933.

 

August Mission Collection — This month we are collecting for the Fauquier Family Shelter.  The items requested this month are:  healthy snack items for kids, and juice boxes.  As always, they will accept any food donations. 

 

Calling in All Baby Bottles!  — Thank you for your wonderful response to the CareNet Pregnancy Resource Centers “Change for Life” fundraising project.  82 bottles were “adopted” and 37 bottles have been filled and returned, with funds of $710.00, thus far.  We are looking for 45 bottles to be returned to the church office within the next three weeks, even if you have not quite completed filling them.  If you have any concerns, please call Pam Lynn (liaison) at 703.754.1899.

 

United College Ministries in Northern Virginia — UCMNV is an ecumenical Christian organization sponsored by PCUSA as well as other churches.  Formed in 1966, their programs currently support the 30,500 students of George Mason University and the 65,000 students of NOVA.  These programs further connect the students with surrounding communities where many of them live and commute to class.  They welcome all students — Christians and those of other traditions.  The mission:  to share God’s universal love as revealed in Jesus Christ with the campus communities of Northern Virginia; encourage students and other in their intellectual and spiritual journey; cultivate service to others as a way of life; affirm the dignity of all people, foster reconcilement among those who are alienated, and nourish multi-cultural experiences of inclusive community; advocate for peace with justice in personal, social and international life; witness to the unity of the human family.
