Calling all members of the Greenwich church family!!

 

Congregational Meeting

May 20, 2007

6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

To be held in the Sanctuary

 

The purpose of this important meeting on May 20th

is to vote on the following motion:

“Shall the recommendations of the Ministry Planning Committee

be incorporated into the building plan?”

 

In order to assist members of the congregation in making their decision, informational meetings have been scheduled:

Sunday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m.

Saturday, May 12 at 9:00 a.m.

Sunday, May 20 at 5:00 p.m.

[All meetings will be held in the sanctuary and have identical format]

 

An Informational Packet has been prepared and will be available for pick up in the sanctuary, church office, and Fellowship Hall.  The packet may also be viewed through our church web-site http://greenwichpres.org under the Recent Additions heading on the right-hand column click “Congregational Meeting Materials.”  The packet includes the following information:

1. Copy of presentation to be made at informational meetings

2. Summary from 1998 Facility Planning “Hellstern Report”

3. Building Plan from 2000 (from financial campaign mailing)

4. Ministry Planning Committee presentation October 2006

 

 

Please review the background materials, plan to attend and vote on the 20th, and pray that God would give us love, clarity, and unity as we seek to serve his purposes!!

Opportunities for Study, Service and Fellowship

 

 

Youth Mission Trip Meeting — We’ll meet on Sunday at 12:30pm.  Cara Simpkins will be giving a presentation on Hurricane Katrina relief.  Be ready to commit to our trip on July 21-28th, 2007.  Bring your fundraising ideas!

 

Youth Child Protection Training — At this Sunday youth group, we’ll have child protection training for youth and their parents.  This is required for volunteers for youth group, VBS, etc. 

 

Child Protection Training — If you haven’t already gone through the training process, we’ll have another training on Wednesday, May 9th, at 7:00pm.  Childcare will be available.  For more information, please contact Joy Yates at childen@greenwichpres.org or 703.754.7933.

 

Youth Confirmation Class — On June 18-22, all youth (rising 6th grade and above) are invited to participate in a confirmation class taught by Pastor Meeks.  The class will begin at 10:00am and conclude with lunch each day.  To register, please contact the church office at office@greenwichpres.org or 703.754.7933.

 

Important Congregational Meeting — The session has called a congregational meeting to be held on Sunday, May 20th, 6:00-8:00pm.  This important meeting is for the purpose of clarifying the 200 building plan and to seek congregational approval to incorporate the recommendations of the Ministry Planning Committee of October 2006 into the plan.  Prior to the congregational meeting, we will be holding informational meetings on Sunday, May 6th, at 6:00pm, Saturday, May 12th, at 9:00am, and Sunday, May 20th, at 5:00pm.  Please continue in our Season of Prayer as we seek to fulfill God’s purposes for Greenwich.

VBS Sign Up Starts Today!  — Be sure to sign up your family early, adults included.  You won’t want to miss this Wild West adventure to Avalanche Ranch. 

 

Cookbooks Are In — Just in time for Mother’s Day!  If you pre-ordered a cookbook, pick it up this Sunday.  We are also selling the cookbooks for $15 each, for those who were not able to pre-order.  We’ll be selling from 9:00 to 9:30am, 10:30 to 11:00am, and 12:00 to 12:30pm.

 

Second Saturday Group — Join us for our Dessert and Theatre Party!  We’ll meet at 6:30pm on Saturday, May 12th, in Fellowship Hall for an array of homemade desserts.  After dessert, we will attend the Fauquier Community Theatre production of Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple.  Most of us remember the neurotic, neat-obsessed Felix Unger and the slovenly Oscar Madison from the movie or the television series.  We can look forward to good fun and lots of laughs.  We have a block of 30 tickets at $12.00 each.  Please RSVP to Pat Eggers at 540.347.2727 by TODAY, so we can obtain more if necessary or turn in what we cannot use.

 

Parents of Graduating Seniors — If you have a child that is graduating from high school or college, we would like to recognize them and celebrate their accomplishment.  Please contact the church office at office@greenwichpres.org or 703.754.7933 with their information.

 

Service Recording Training — We are offering training for all those interested in helping record our three Sunday services.  If interested, please join us on Wednesday, May 9th, at 7:00pm in the balcony of the sanctuary.  For more information, please contact the church office at office@greenwichpres.org or 703.754.7933.

 

Spring Cleaning? — Keep Farthest Corners in mind!  Farthest Corners will be accepting “in-kind” donations of items to sell on Ebay.  Consider donating the following types of items:  almost any type of new OR gently used items; tools needed for making crafts; children’s toys in new, like new, or very good condition; one of a kind items; vintage items; collections of items; home party company items; name brand items; handheld power tools in good condition; collectables.  We are NOT looking for items that you would typically sell at a yard sale.  Items should be a size that is able to be sent through the US Mail.  We will accept donations at the church on Sunday, May 6th from 9:00am-11:00am and Saturday, May 12th, from 10:00am-12:00pm.  Please contact Wendy Atkinson at stampsu@aol.com or 703.754.4221 if you have a question about a donation.

 

Mission:  Calling All Gardners — Plant-A-Row for the Hungry kick-off is this Sunday!  The Plant-A-Row team (Jay and Sonja Yankey and Duane Mohr) will be handing out tomato, pepper, squash and cucumber plants, and bean and carrot seeds for your to plant in your garden and donate to SERVE’s food pantry.  Last year we had a goal of 600 lbs. and collected 300 lbs.  The goal for this year will be 800 lbs., and we ask for your prayers for rain and great growing weather.  Vegetable collections will be on Sundays starting in mid-July through mid-October.

 

Shenandoah University Student Organ/Piano Recital — Please join us on Saturday, May 19th, at 7:00pm, as we welcome Annie Hof.
