Parenting by the Book

(of Proverbs that is!)

Have you taught your children the Three R’s yet?

Not reading, ‘riting, and ‘rithmetic…the Three R’s of being Respectful, Responsible, and Resourceful!

This five-week class is intended for parents, grandparents, and parents-to-be who want practical, godly wisdom on raising Three R’s children.   Believing the Book of Proverbs to be God’s “handbook” for raising wise children, the class will explore several foundational proverbs that all parents need to know and children need to learn!

Parenting by the Book — Have you taught your children the Three R’s yet?  How to be Respectful, Responsible and Resourceful?  Please join us for a five-week class intended for parents, grandparents, and parents-to-be who want practical godly wisdom on raising children.  Begins Wednesday, January 17th, from 6:00 to 7:00pm.  A light dinner will be provided on the 17th at 5:30pm.  Childcare will be provided.  We will have a separate study of the Proverbs for elementary aged children.

Committee Night - All Church Committee Night is Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.  We welcome all members and friends of the church to come and explore the joy of serving together.

Faith Village Chorale —We rehearse every Sunday at 9:00am in the choir room.  Faith Village Chorale is open to all children K-5.  We welcome all new singers!  We are now rehearsing for our next performance on Sunday, February 4th, at the 11:00am service.

Quilting — Join us at the church on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month from 9:30am to 12:00pm to sit and sew or learn the basics of quilt making.  We’ll next meet on January 22nd.  Contact Lisa House at bikelshouse@aol.com or 703.594.2308 for more information.

Women’s Winter Tea — ALL women of Greenwich are invited to gather together!  This year’s tea is scheduled for Sunday, January 28th, from 3:00 to 5:00pm.  For more information contact Lisa House at bikelshouse@aol.com or 703.594.2308.

Sweetheart Dinner — This year’s dinner will be held on Saturday, February 17th.  More information will be provided, as the date gets closer.

Open House — The Coe family welcomes the congregation to an Open House at our home in Bristow (9105 Acadia Park Drive) on Sunday, January 28th from 1:00 to 4:00pm to celebrate Ben’s 21st birthday.  We appreciate all that the Greenwich congregation has done for our family and hope that you will join us in this day of celebration.  If you will be able to attend please let us know at 703.393.9384 or coe-party@comcast.net.  We look forward to sharing the afternoon with you!

Care Net — Sunday, January 21st, is celebrated by many Christians as Sanctity of Human Life Sunday — a day to celebrate the wonder of being created in the image of our gracious God.  Sadly, it is also a day to remember the incredible number of lives that have been affected, both mothers and children, since the legalizing of abortion in our country.  In an effort to support the sanctity of life, Greenwich Presbyterian Church partners with Care Net Pregnancy Resource Centers in Manassas, Warrenton and Woodbridge as they seek to save lives and share the life-giving message of Jesus Christ.  On the 21st each of the Centers will hold an Open House from 23:30 to 4:30pm and invites the community to stop by and see the good work God has called Care Net to do, and learn of opportunities where you might join hands with them in their life-affirming work.

January Mission Collection —This Sunday we are collecting for FISH.  Items requested include breakfast cereal, canned fruit, sugar and laundry detergent.  All always, all items are accepted.

Thank You for Helping at Toyland — Over 6,000 children were given much joy at Christmas because of the help of many dear people who stuffed stockings, checked gift bags, and distributed the Salvation Army Angel Tree gifts to DC families.  Sincere and heartfelt thanks go to Jacquie, Angela and Jim, Jeanne and Bob, Lisa, Barbara, Pat and Leon for the generous donation of your hearts and hands.

Annual Report — All committees and organizations compiling a brief year-end report for inclusion in our 2006 Annual Report, can submit their reports to Maria Duffus at mduffus@greenwichchurch.org.  The deadline for submitting the reports is January 21, 2007.  These reports will be shared at the Annual Congregational Meeting — date TBD.

In Case of Emergency —  Always use one of the church phones (not a cell phone) when calling 911 from the church.  Directions for dialing out are located on each phone.  If you use a cell phone, you must ask for a Prince William County dispatcher when calling, since many of our cell phone towers are located in Fauquier County.  It slows down the response time if they have to reroute the call later.

** Please note that the staff Comcast  email accounts are no longer used.  Please contact staff members at their greenwichpres.org email addresses.  Thank you!
